Dates and venue for the RHS Botanical Art Show 2021

Artists participating in the next RHS Botanical Art and Photography Show now have the dates and venue. These are:

VENUE: to be formally announced this week (when I shall do a new blog post)
DATES:
- Judging: Thursday 16 September
- Preview evening Friday 17 September (which I assume means the medals will be posted next to the artwork)
- Exhibition: Saturday 18 September – Sunday 3 October 2021 (just over two weeks)

Watch out for an update on this page laster this week.

I shall miss the intensity of the 2.5 days of the usual show - with all the artists in attendance - because it's only 3 days for them. Hopefully as many a possible will be there for the Preview evening and to pick up there Medal Certificate! I'm perplexed at the moment as to how I'm going to be able to interview all the Gold Medal Winners.

Given the extended period of the show it's very unlikely that all the artists who attend will be there for the duration - and hence the scope to talk to them (which I know aspiring botanical artists much enjoy doing) will be diminished.

On the plus side, as it's going to be hung for much longer there's a much greater chance it will be seen my more people given existing commitments often ruled out attendance for some on previous occasions. (I well remember one year scooting from the show to Euston for a train up north for a big birthday celebration!)

I'm unclear what's happening about the sale of cards and prints which are sold by individual artists at the show in the past and often help to subsidise the costs of artists attending the exhibition. London is after all not a cheap place to stay!

SELECTION MEETING FOR 2022 EXHIBITION

The Selection Meeting for the 2022 Exhibition took place on 8th July. I'd love to know who's going to be showing next year.....

It's unclear at the moment whether the exhibition will change dates again in 2022 or whether it will be in:

April - as originally planned for 2020
September - as now planned for 2021

RHS have never made the content of the exhibitions available online - to date.
I normally take photos and write about the exhibitions in blog posts. I'm not sure what the arrangements will be this year with the change of venue.

I am confused as to why those of us who hoped to be exhibiting at RHS this or next year did not know of this September exhibition OR the selection of artists for 2022. Hve I understood this correctly? Are we too late to submit our work for 2022? I have been looking at th RHS website regularly!

I think you've misunderstood Maureen - and suggest you read my page about the RHS Exhibition https://www.botanicalartandartists.com/rhs-botanical-art-exhibitions.html

So far as this exhibition is concerned, this is the exhibition which should have taken place in 2020 - but was cancelled (i.e. no chance to submit for it because participants had already been invited).

So far as the meeting in July is concerned, this is the normal annual selection meeting for all those submitting their portfolios for approval to exhibit - which normally takes place around about now.

As you already have a silver gilt medal you can apply to submit to future exhibitions as and when RHS issues invites to those who are eligible to enter.

However, I'm sure they've been very absorbed with the activities associated with relocating the exhibition and getting back up to speed post furlough and that invite might not go out for a while.

Dear Katherine. Re my last e mail, I HAVE mis-understood about the 2022 Exhibition. I see that on the 8th July the RHS were haveing a selection day for NEW applicants. sorry!

Dear Katharine, re your note above "I'd love to know who's going to be showing next year.....". I am pleased to say that I submitted four prints for the 8 July 2021 Selection Committee meeting and have been accepted to exhibit between 2022 and 2026 inclusive. I was so shocked at being accepted, that it has taken me a bit of time to come to terms with it all. And I can see that my "project" will not be ready by 2022 because of all the hard and concise work required to produce exceptional artworks. So I shall take my time and carefully plan my exhibit paintings, hopefully in time for 2023. I do appreciate your website very much, and it is through your pages that I decided to apply (having been rejected in 2010!). Thank you so much.

That's really good to hear Tina. I love it when I get feedback like this - makes it all worthwhile!
Do take your time and create a good project plan for all the different aspects.
