The First International Congress of Botanical Art was held in 2016 in Pittsburgh, PA. It was initiated by ASBA with a view to an International Congress being held every 3 years at the same time as the Hunt International Exhibition.

  • BELGIUM - Society of Botanical Artists Belgium (Vereniging van Botanische Kunstenaars België) Founded in 2020 (?). Activities for botanical artists in Belgium.
  • FRANCE- La Société Française d'Illustration Botanique (SFIB) Founded in December 2011 by four artists with the objective of promoting the grand tradition of French botanical illustration, whether artistic or scientific past or present. Current membership includes international artists.  Runs courses and has links with the Musee d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris.  It has good quality gallery pages for each of its members who wants one. 
  • GERMANY - Verein Botanische Kunst (Association of Botanical Artists) - Professional and semi-professional artists, beginners, patrons and nature enthusiasts can enjoy the benefits of membership and support botanical art throughout Germany.  Facebook Group (Private)
  • IRELAND - The Irish Society of Botanical Artists (ISBA) Founded in 2012, this is a group of botanical artists and people in Ireland who are interested in botanical art. They also have a Facebook Page Irish Society of Botanical Artists - on Facebook
  • ITALY Floraviva Associazione Italiana Pittori Botanici / Floraviva Italian Painters Association Botanic - founded in March 2004 to promote the art of painting botany in Italy. A vivum is a work, it is never a copy.
  • NETHERLANDS - Society of Dutch Botanical Artists Founded April 2006. The website now has an English version available.
  • ROMANIA - Romanian Society of Botanical Artists. Founded in November 2018 with the aim of connecting people passionate about botanical art in Romania - but both website and Facebook Page now (2022) seem to be 'dead'.
  • RUSSIA - Association of Botanical Artists in Russia - registered as an Association of Botanical Artists in Russia on September 14, 2018. (original website URL). The aim is to develop and popularize botanical painting in Russia, hold exhibitions; develop projects and promote the professional growth of its members.
  • UKRAINE - Society of Botanical Artists Ukraine - Exhibitions currently suspended due to the war - but the next exhibition will be held at National Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

  • USA - American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) The American Society of Botanical Artists, Inc. (ASBA) is a non-profit organisation. It aims to provide a thriving, interactive community dedicated to perpetuating the tradition and contemporary practice of botanical art. It has well over 1,000 members.​ The 2017 ASBA conference will be held October 12, 13, 14, in Northern California.
  • CANADA Botanical Artists of Canada Formed on 2001, this not-for-profit organisation appears to have disbanded
  • Guild of Natural Science Illustrators The Guild of Natural Science Illustrators is an organisation of people employed or interested in natural science illustration.

  • AUSTRALIA- Botanical Art Society of Australia The Botanical Art Society of Australia (BASA) has been formed as a non-profit organisation to foster and promote the development of botanical art nationwide and to bring together people who have a love of plants and of the botanical art form.
  • New Zealand- The Botanical Art Society of New Zealand The Society’s aims are to foster and promote botanical art and to stimulate interest in plants, conservation and the natural environment.

Africa - national

  • South Africa - Botanical Artists' Association of Southern Africa This is the website of a group of South African botanical artists who share their experiences, techniques and information. It has three regional branches in BAASA Gauteng, BAASA KwaZuluNatal and BAASA Western Cape.

  • INDONESIA - Indonesian Society of Botanical Artists - founded on 27th November 2017 by Eunike Nugroho and Jenny Kartawinata. Ms Andiriana Wisnu is the current President. (Facebook Page)
  • JAPAN - The Japanese Association of Botanical Illustration The Japanese Association of Botanical Illustration is a nationwide organization of lovers of botanical illustration which has recently attracted interest among the general public. It started in 1991. At present it comprises some 330 members.
  • KOREA - Korean Society of Botanical Illustrators - organised the Botanical Art Worldwide exhibition in South Korea with the Korea National Arboretum The Korean Society of Botanical Illustrators has been painting endangered Korean plants and main afforestation species since 2004
  • KOREA - The Botanical Artist Society of Korea (not a very accessible website - created in 2009)
  • KOREA - Korea Botanical Arts Co-operative (KBAC) founded in 2015. A cooperative to promote the development of botanical arts and to provide various opportunities for artists
  • PHILIPPINES - Philippine Botanical Art Society (PhilBAS) - established to encourage Filipino artists to paint our own native flora in a botanical art style. It aims to revive the botanical art form through workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions.
  • SINGAPORE - Botanical Art Society (Singapore) - founded in 2019, this society now has over 60 members from Singapore, across Asia and North America and an excellent website. Many of its members have graduated from either the SBA Diploma Course or a course at RBGE. It is active in running exhibitions and workshops (face to face and online).

​UK - North of England
  • Northern Society Of Botanical Art - The NSBA supports local Artists of all abilities, in the development and enjoyment of Botanical Art. Members come from Sheffield, Worksop Chesterfield, Barnsley Doncaster and some areas of Derbyshire. Activities are focused around Sheffiled Botanical Gardens. The Group focuses its online activities via its Facebook Page

UK - Midlands and East of England
  • Birmingham Society of Botanical Artists - Formed in 1999 . The aim of the Society is to continue the skill of botanical drawing and painting and to encourage members to develop and grow. This is where they can be found on Facebook
  • Leicestershire Society of Botanical Illustrators - formed in 1987 with the aim of promoting botanical illustration by a small group of enthusiastic botanical artists, led by Anne Marie Evans, who is the Society’s President. Currently has 70 members. Members have won 5 RHS Gold Medals, 19 Silver Gilt Medals, 15 Silver Medals and 12 Bronze Medals.  This is their Facebook Page 
  • Iceni Botanical Artists - Founded in 2010 by 23 botanical artists. There are now 25 members who all live in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. They have been painting the wild flowers of Breckland (in Norfolk) for the last three years, recording in particular those associated with Heath and Grasslands as many of the plants are only found in Breckland. Six members of Iceni Botanical Artists exhibited their work at the RHS London Botanical Art Show 2016 (see below) where they won a Silver Gilt Medal for the Society.

UK - South and West of England
  • Bath Society of Botanical Artists - All the artists live and work near Bath and meet every week to paint together.  The group was formed over ten years ago and members have won both National and International awards for their work. Helps develop skills in specific techniques by holding workshops with visiting artists. Also organises outings to exhibitions or gardens. 
  • Gloucestershire Society for Botanical Illustration - formed in 1993 for all those interested in botanical illustration, whether as botanists, botanical illustrators, gardeners or those involved in the collection and appreciation of botanical works.
  • South West Society of Botanical Artists [SWSBA] - News and Events from the South West Society of Botanical Artists. The Society welcomes anyone with an interest in botanical illustration - students, artists, teachers, collectors, enthusiasts, friends and family.​
  • Ventnor Botanical Artists - Formed in 2002, this is a small group which grew out of the classes of one botanical art tutor. It holds regular exhibitions.

  • Botanical Art Society of the National Capital Region (BASNCR) - regional ASBA chapter in the Washington, DC. area. Members come from DC, northern and central Virginia and Maryland. Connections to Brookside Gardens (Maryland); the U. S. Botanic Garden (Washington) and the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (Virginia).
  • Botanical Artists for Education & the Environment - a nonprofit corporation established for botanical artists centered in the Washington, D.C., area. Has published a book of  plants native to the mid-Atlantic region (see below).

American Botanical Paintings: Native Plants of the Mid Atlantic by Bonnie Driggers (Editor)

​This book was a project by the Botanical Artists for Education & the Environment - based in Washington DC.
The book features:
• 60 Botanical Painting & Drawings 
• 40 Paintings of butterflies, moths, and other insect pollinators
Obviously given the numbers this means the book is not comprehensive in relation to the area and I'm left wondering about any plans for more volumes - and how these might be organised.

  • Centro de Ilustração Botânica do Paraná - CIBP (The Botanical Illustration Center of Paraná)  Founded 2000: a socio-cultural and educational association of artists dedicated to recording Brazilian flora and affiliated the Botanic Foundation Margaret Mee. It maintains its own HQ for weekly meetings of the group and the delivery Botanical Illustration courses. It also offers specialised botanical illustration services in colour (watercolour) and monochrome (graphite and pen and ink) for the scientific and commercial area.
