I'm currently updating my page of Workshops, Classes and Short Courses in the UK with the titles and dates of new courses being offered in 2017. This is a page focused on the education & continuing professional development of aspiring and existing botanical artists and illustrators. Below is an EXAMPLE of one of the new courses in 2017 in the UK - a short course on painting on vellum will be delivered by Sarah Morrish and Shevaun Doherty in Hampshire next September. Unsurprisingly, given the continuing problems with Fabriano Artistico, there are more and more botanical artists interested in painting on vellum. The 'Heritage Irish Plants – Plandaí Oidhreachta' Exhibition opened at the Visitor Centre at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin this weekend. All paintings are by members of the Irish Society of Botanical Artists (ISBA). The paintings in the show feature many well-known plants including Irish snowdrops, dahlias and sweet pea along with primroses, iris and daffodils as well as a number of garden plants selected from the native Irish flora. It was opened at the weekend by Dr Martyn Rix, the botanist, plant collector, author and Editor of Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Dr Rix studied botany at Trinity College, Dublin. A book of the same name (a joint publication by the ISBA and the Irish Garden Plant Society) featuring the paintings in the exhibition was launched at an event on Saturday 12 November.
