About Reviews

The basic principle which underpins this site is that
all the reviews which appear here are independent and unbiased

What does this mean?
  • My lists of botanical artists have very clear and verifiable criteria as to who gets included.
  • I have indicated the basis for how I list the tutors and courses included on this website. I review information about botanical art and illustrations courses / workshops / classes / holidays.  I list basic facts. I only include what appear to be the better tutors on the basis of: the quality of their artwork; their presentation of information for students; review of course materials available online (e.g. videos and handbooks) and a variety of feedback about both courses and tutors
  • I choose to buy the bulk of my art materials and art books from various shops and suppliers. I like to support independent suppliers where possible.
  • I have no financial relationship or formal affiliation with any suppliers of art materials, any publisher or any B&M art shop or art bookshop (apart from Amazon - see below for statement about my affiliate status)
  • I am periodically sent review copies of books by various publishers or authors and samples of art materials by various suppliers of art materials. I always declare if I was sent a book or a product as a sample. I don't always review them online and sometimes prefer to feedback to the supplier direct.
  • I choose what I recommend that is available on Amazon. There are no automated links serving up books or products deemed appropriate by Amazon
  • I am an Amazon affiliate - see below - and all links to books include an affiliate link to my own personal affiliate accounts on Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com. This means that if you buy a book as a result of clicking on one of these links I might earn a very small sum. (Income earned in this way helps me finance this site - and the purchase of new books).
  • Apart from books (see above for declaration) I will always declare if I have any sort of affiliate interest in relation to a product or service under review
  • I expect all reviews by any other contributors to adhere to the basic premise that any and all affiliations are transparent and declared - as per all the relevant ecommerce regulations and requirements that apply in the UK and USA.

If you have any queries about what any of this means please contact me

If you've got a book or a product you want me to review please contact me.

I make no promises as to:
  • whether I will create a review or
  • when that review will appear.
It all depends on whether I reckon it is something worth recommending and how many other books etc. are ahead in the queue - and whether or not I need a break!

Reviews of this website

I have just spent a very delighful and informative time browsing this new site. I absolutely love it.
Coral Guest
A brilliant resource for all aspects of botanical art and illustration. One of the first websites I recommend to my botanical art students.
Sarah Morrish | Illustrating Nature's Details
The widest source of information for those interested in Botanical Art
Elaine Searle | Paint Botanical
A great resource for anyone with an interest in botanical art, past and present. Kathy Pickles
It's a top website (of ALL websites) in my humble op. Well organised, informative, attractive and a pleasure to surf. Lots of thought and hard work have obviously gone into it (and continue to), so huge thanks!

Buying books via this website

The Best Botanical Art and Illustration Instruction Books
You'll notice two links next to most books after the suggested action of "BUY THIS BOOK".

The links are to the respective titles (which are sometimes slightly different) at:
  • Amazon.com
  • Amazon.co.uk
Why buy via this website?

Two reasons:
  1. You will help offset the not insignificant cost of running this website. Think of it as a "Thank You" if you've enjoyed / appreciated the content. The links are associate links and each purchase generates a very small sum - and by buying books you help this site to continue...
  2. You will be using a very secure link. I will only ever provide a link to a site that I KNOW is totally secure. Google is making security of sites a top priority and has endorsed Amazon's security status via its Transparency report

  • I love botanical art. I did watercolors of flowers while getting my art degree many years ago and always wished I could study botanical art technique. I joined a couple of botanical/natural history art listservs when the 'Net was new and that scared me away, though. Way too precise for me. :) Great site!
