After a very long time when it seemed like there might not be another botanical art exhibition, suddenly there are a lot all at once.
I'm going to be writing more about some of those listed below but felt the need to alert you all to what's on to look at right now. I'm differentiating between

The Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art has finally reopened after being closed for six months - after lots of risk assessments and with controlled entry and a one way system - with two NEW exhibitions - which both opened on saturday 3rd October and run until âSunday 14 March 2021.

2020 marks the 200th anniversary of the death of Sir Joseph Banks on 19 June 1820. âSee my blog post last year about the anniversary and this exhibition - Banks 2020: Jan Hendrix at Shirley Sherwood Gallery Kew. Flowers Delight in the Detail This exhibition of paintings from the collection of Shirley Sherwood comprises the work of botanical artists and illustrators who focus on the detailed aspects of plants from around the world. It includes artwork resulting from magnification and dissection.â Exhibiting artists include: Brigid Edwards (see below), Denise Ramsay and Liz Fraser.

Enduring Beauty: Orchid Portraits of the RHS The RHS has employed an official artist to paint beautiful life-size portraits of orchids for over 120 years. This exhibition opened in the Library just before lockdown started. It was going to provide a spectacular display of recent RHS orchid portraits - including the latest portraits by current RHS Orchid Artist, Deborah Lambkin. In this instance, the digital exhibition is for RHS Members only - or rather those who have got an online RHS account (like me!) However everybody can read more about that exhibition - and see some of the images - in my blog post Worth a Thousand Words - exhibition at the RHS. However you can see much larger images of the work in the online exhibition. So if you're an RHS member and have not got your online account sorted yet, now's the time to do it! The Association of British Botanical Artists (ABBA) have announced their Call for Entries for their next botanical art exhibition called "Purely Botanical" - and it opens for submissions today. (I was alerted to this by ABBA after publishing my last post - and they very kindly sent me the details this morning!)
