The Call for Entries has been published and the closing date for applications for space to exhibit is 14 February 2017 BISCOT is both an organisation and an exhibition (Botanical Images SCOTland). The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. This year the organising committee have endeavoured to make the application process more accessible and easier for artists BISCOT Exhibition 2017 The exhibition takes place between Thursday 1 June – 22 June 2017 and can be seen at two locations:

The Scottish Botanical Art Collective
Botanical artists in Scotland have formed The Scottish Botanical Art Collective (SBAC) in order to respond to the call for countries to participate in the worldwide exhibition of botanical art being organised by ASBA.
The Scottish Botanical Art Collective (SBAC) is brand new umbrella organisation formed to represent the interests of botanical artists beloging to or working for:
Below are the details of the Call for Entries. More details will follow in January 2017. You can also find details of the exhibition and the Call for Entries on the Botanical Art Exhibitions in the UK page on this website. Flora Scotia

I've been sent some more photos of BISCOT by Hazel Morris which I thought people might like to see. They include a proper view of the complete exhibit by Sarah Roberts which indicates the botanically complete nature of her paintings - from roots to leaves, flowers, fruits and seedpods and dissected parts of the same. They look very impressive and I'm not at all surprised this exhibit won a Gold Medal. You can now also see this set of BISCOT botanical illustrations on her website if you'd like to study them some more. They include:
One of the other things which is particularly noteworthy is that the complexity of the life cycle content is beautifully designed on the page so that the eye travels around the page and isn't jumping around from isolated item to another item. It's always worth thinking about how to make connections between all the part of the pictorial image on the picture plane within the four lines which provide the boundaries for the design. I think we could all raise a glass to Sarah on a job well done! (Sarah also has a blog at Sarah Roberts) Plus this is a view a view of part of the Silver Gilt exhibit of Hellebores by Margaret Walty
The Botanical Images Scotia (BISCOT) Exhibition for 2016 reopened today at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, John Hope Gateway Building. Below you can see some photos of the exhibit. However the first photo is of Hazel Morris with Sarah Roberts who won a Gold Medal for "Six plants that nodulate with nitrogen-fixing bacteria". You can see some of the paintings in her exhibit in the background. Hazel Morris is the Chairperson of the Scottish Society of Botanical Artists and much involved with the organisation of BISCOT and its exhibition at both Gardening Scotland and the RGBE The exhibition closes finally on Thursday 23 June so lots of time to get to see it! Please note that although work may be for sale once hung, no work may be removed or substituted before the end of the exhibition. My blog post at the weekend - Botanical Images Scotia (BISCOT) 2016 - Medal Winners - gave details of the medal winners. The following points are considered by the BISCOT judges when assessing artwork for medals
My thanks to Jacqui Pestell, Director Botanical Illustration at RGBE for the photographs

If you missed the show don't worry - the show reopens at RGBE on Wednesday (details at the end of this post) Gold Medals
This is a the second Gold Medal this year for Sansanee! She also won Gold at the RHS Botanical Art Show in London in February 2016. Unfortunately Sansanee is in Thailand at the moment and was unable to attend the exhibition and her work was hung by her partner who lives in Lothian. Sarah Roberts has been working on a project she is very committed to but hopefully will be visiting the showground later today and will find out she has won a Gold Medal! Silver Gilt Medals
Morna is a graduate of the Diploma Course in Botanical Illustration run by the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. Margaret Walty won a Gold Medal at the January 2007 RHS Show and a Silver Gilt Medal at the RHS Botanical Art Show in 2015. Silver Medal

BISCOT 2016 now moves to the RGBE This exhibition now transfers to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, John Hope Gateway Building where it will reopen on 8th June. It will then remain on display until 24th June.
So lots of time still to see these exhibits - and buy some artwork! Find out who are the artists selected to exhibit at the international competition held by Botanical Images Scotia (BISCOT) in conjunction with the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society (RCHS) and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE). How to see the BISCOT Exhibition 2016You can see the exhibition this week at the Gardening Scotland Show, at the Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston between 10am and 5pm on Friday 3rd until Saturday 5th June 2016. Thursday 2nd June is hanging day. It looks from the Show Maps as if the Botanical Art will be exhibited in the Floral Hall. Next week, the exhibition will transfer to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, John Hope Gateway Building, for a period of about three weeks (8th June - 24th June). Selected Artists Names of artists and the title of their exhibit are listed below in alphabetical order of the country they live in. Later this week I'll be highlighting who won what sort of medal!
